Re Bell: My Grandparents, Peter & Margaret Beattie donated the Bell to St. Therese Church in 1927. This bell was originally at the John Beattie Granite Works, of Leetes Island (from which the granite for the Pedestal for the Statue of Liberty was cut, polished and delivered) , and was rung to guide his schooners to the docks and to note the time of day. It was too cumbersome to have served on any of his ships.
Best wishes for your new museum.

Judy,
My mother has a few pix of folks of her father’s generation from Meriden visiting at Stony Creek . They would go to the “Three Elms” and another hotel. There was a connection between her father and a Mrs. Fisher, wife of the minister that married them in Meriden. If you’d like those few pictures, give her a call in Madison.
Good luck with your project!!

I grew up in Stony Creek and have worked in museums around the state. I’d like to get involved with this project. Who should I contact?

Although I Have been gone for fifith years and a continent away my heart still resides in Stony Creek. I did work at the Dodd (Norcross) Quarry during the late 1950′s using the old time tools.
Interest in Stony Creek History and heritage continues to this day.
Is there any way I could be a long-distanced participant or contributor to the museum?
